For the past few weeks I have been in the process of moving in with my girlfriend. As most of you know, the process of moving has its own unique set of complications that we all must face. Typically, the moving process for me has involved finding a few friends that I am willing to lose (making friends help you move will do that), packing the majority of the small to medium stuff in a truck, cussing pretty much for the entire experience, and hiring movers for the rest of the large furniture. This time around, though, since I am moving in to my girlfriend’s place, there is no need for the majority of my stuff. So I had to find a quick way to get rid of all of it.
I was opposed to putting it in storage, because I figured it would be a huge waste of money to keep it there for years. I rolled the dice on everything working out with my lady, and decided to sell on Craigslist. For those not familiar with it:
- You have been living under a rock.
- There are a lot of weird people on the internet.
- They all meet up on Craigslist.
On Craigslist, you find that every single person wants to buy your $1,200 70″ TV for $150, a half-eaten cookie, and some pocket lint. I have met with at least a half dozen people so far, and have managed to sell a couch. I have had to employ effort, determination, and have had to set more boundaries in the last week than in the past few months.
Well, I am back to trying to sell a whole house worth of brand new stuff; without bartering for tattoos, old bikes, and power tools.
Wish me luck.
